She graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce (summa cum laude) from Far Eastern University and received her Master of Business Administration degree from the Ateneo - Regis Graduate School of Business. She received the ING-FINEX CFO of the Year award in 2008 and was one of the FEU Outstanding Alumni Awardees in the same year.

Lydia spent 44 years in academe, including 10 years as president of PLC FEU. She is currently a board member at PLCs —Meralco, Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation, Wilcon Depot, and Alsons Consolidated Resources, and formerly, for nine years, of Shell Pilipinas Corp. and D&L Industries.
She is also executive director of the Henry Sy Foundation, Inc., and also board member of other non-listed corporations — Fern Realty Corporation of the FEU group and NBS Educational Services; of schools — Riverside College, Inc. in Bacolod, Mano Amiga Academy, Inc., and of foundations — SM Foundation, Inc., Akademyang Filipino Association, Inc., and Museo del Galeon Foundation Inc. She adores her eight grandchildren among her immediate clan of 55 members and enjoys flora and fauna, great food, and happy and holy travel.
She dreams of good governance so that Filipinos may be properly served.
